We are a group of staff committed to supporting pupils with complex autism and the effects this can have on cognition, learning and behaviour.

The group is led by two teachers:

One who has 18 years experience in mainstream and special education working with students with autism. She holds a Masters in Education degree with interest in task analysis, positive communication and the development of independence.

A second teacher who has over 10 years experience in mainstream and special education. He has a particular interest in Augmentative and Alternative Communication and helps to provide an outreach support service for North Yorkshire County Council, giving children and young people opportunities to make their voices heard using low, mid and high-tech communication aids.

The class is supported by three teaching assistants who, between them, have great skills in dealing with challenging behaviour through the adaptation of activities to meet the needs of students. Additional support is provided by the multi-disciplinary team.
